These beauties are my new photog friends! Aren’t they cute, all blondes….they are all super nice and I look forward to getting to know them better over the summer while we soak up all of Teales’ professional knowledge. Teale is so sweet to pass on what she knows as a professional in the wedding industry, unlike so many pro’s who help you only for profit, Teale does it because she truly enjoys helping others. On this day we photographed each other to remind ourselves how uncomfortable being photographed can be and to practice giving direction and making the person your photographing feel good and have a good time. I learn best in hands on situations so I plan on learning alot in the next three months, I will be able to 2nd shoot an engagement and two weddings along with other shoots. It isn’t easy to come by this kind of learning opportunity, I am glad to drive to San Diego for this, it is a beautiful place and I am having fun! In other news I am happy to announce that while I have been going back and fourth with investing in the mark ii I made the decision to instead buy myself a flash and the Tamron 28-75mm since I cannot afford the canon 24-70mm right now….This way I have a great all around lens, the 580 ex ii flash, my primes, and for now the 450D will do just fine……for now
Hopefully after this summer I will be adding the full frame to my list !!

Mondays are my fundays…. I like to take advantage of everyone being at work, shorter lines, less traffic, etc…. So the plan wasn’t for me to go to a cemetery but that’s where I ended up. I have been to Rose Hills so many times usually for funerals but I had never really explored it. Rose hills is really beautiful. The grassy hills go on forever, there is a buddhist temple, a mausoleum, several churches, and if your lucky you will see deer eating up all the flowers left for loved ones. I am so lucky that I have not had a person super close to me die, yes I have loved ones buried there but I have not had the experience of going there to visit someone on holidays, or their birthday. Since I was there the day after Easter, there was a sea of decorations like I have never seen before. I realized that people go and spend lots of time here, they have picnics and enjoy the beauty while they feel close to their loved ones.

Have you ever thought about being buried vs. cremated? I have thought about it but I can’t say which I would prefer…I see the value in the burial and having a place that your loved ones can come and feel better, you can be put in the same area with your family, but it is really more for the living I think. Being cremated is pretty gnarly, but…. you can be spread back into the earth somewhere that meant something to you while you were living. I don’t know? Surprise me:) What a thing to blog about….death! Well this place is full of life- I can see why people might want to take their wedding pictures here, there are some great spots for photos.

Hopefully this monday will be a little more upbeat:) I want to check out south coast botanical gardens….I am excited that tomorrow I am going back to cypress college….I went to school there years ago…tomorrow there is going to be a FREE photography expo with all the big O.C. photographers speaking for FREE:) I am looking forward to it- should I go see J* again, I’m pretty sure shes speaking on the same subject as wppi but why not? Becker is speaking at the same time and I have not heard him speak yet….decisions decisions. I do want to check out Dane Sanders because I watch his interviews and want to see what he’s all about. So tomorrow is gonna be interesting oh! and did I mention its FREE!
Have a great weekend!!!

As I mentioned in an earlier post Jason and I celebrated Valentines the day after… We were invited to join our friends who were in Corona Del Mar. I’m so glad we took the drive down to meet up with them, It was a beautiful sunshiny day. We drove through La Jolla and then parked it at Pacific Beach and hung out by the pier then went out for some dinner.
We packed these Cupcakes for Dessert…

We had a great time with our friends, Bryan and Grace make a great couple, they have been dating for almost four years and I can’t wait until they join “the club”
Until then… I was taking some playful pictures of them and here a few others from that day…
B & G …

Why start a blog? Recently I have decided to document my photos in a new way. Many photographers use blogs to connect with their clients, potential clients and of course friends and family. I learned that I really like reading other blogs, it is a good way to get to know someone and get a feel for them that a website doesnt deliver the same way.
Why photography? I have always loved photography, I took classes in high school and college, back then they were all film classes. I studied art in college and have been making my jewelry since ’99, all the while loving all things that allow me to be creative, and crafty.
While planning my wedding I was being reminded by my vendors how much I’d love to be one of them. The cake decorator, the florist, the wedding planner (well I WAS my planner), the make up artist, and while I have dabbled in all of the above, I realized the coolest job of them all was the photographer! To me the photos were top priority, one of the only things you can keep from the wedding, cake gets eaten, flowers die, make up gets washed off, but the photos are forever. (and my video- which I love just as much.) So when I booked my photographer, Bob Ortiz, he was so nice I let him know about my interest and passion for photography. Bob was encouraging and told me to start taking photos, lots of photos. I couldnt do that until just recently because I was busy with the wedding so after Christmas I decided after contemplating for months about a grad program (thats another story) to buy a camera and start shooting. Here are some photos from my first try at it…
This is Abigail…

Meet Abigail and her big brother Elijah, my first models. These two cuties were so easy to photograph, these were two of my favorite photos of that day. After this day I couldn’t wait to do it again, so I offered my services to my next model, Josiah.

Another cutie, Josiah was so sweet but not quite as easy to photograph as my first models, Josiah loves his mommy sooo much he wanted to stay super close to her at all times! They have a special bond, and since his mommy is also my cousin, I want to break the news to her that one day she will have to share him with another woman…. but he will always be her baby cub as she likes to call him.
